Cost and quotes

How much does siding cost in Ottawa?

Our installed pricing runs $6-$10 per sq ft for vinyl, $9-$13 for insulated or board and batten profiles, $10-$16 for fiber cement, and $8-$14 for wood, cedar, or steel, all installed. Use the Estimate your cost link at the top of this page for a starting estimate, then request a written quote for an exact number.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, on-site estimates are free across Ottawa and the surrounding area, with a written quote to follow.

What's included in a written quote?

The material and colour selected, the full scope of work, an itemized or all-in price, and the timeline. Any workmanship warranty is set out in that quote, job by job, rather than promised as a blanket guarantee.

How does a siding workmanship warranty work?

Any workmanship warranty we provide is set out in your written quote, specific to your project, rather than promised as a blanket guarantee across every job. Manufacturer warranties on the siding material itself are separate and vary by product line; we'll point you to the manufacturer's documentation for those terms.

Timing and scheduling

How long does a siding installation take?

A standard single-family re-side usually takes a few days to about a week once material is on site. Larger homes, more complex wall shapes, or sheathing repairs found underneath the old siding can extend that.

When is the right time of year to install siding in Ottawa?

Spring through fall is the typical installation window in Ottawa, since most siding materials, especially vinyl, become more brittle and harder to handle safely in deep winter cold. Fiber cement and steel are somewhat less temperature-sensitive during installation, but scheduling still generally favours the warmer months.

Can I stay in my home during siding installation?

Yes, for most residential siding projects. Installation is exterior work, so it doesn't typically require you to leave the home, though you may hear noise during the day and should expect equipment and material staged around the property's perimeter.

Permits and insurance

Do I need a permit for siding replacement in Ottawa?

Often not for a like-for-like re-side, but it depends on the work. The City of Ottawa's building permit page lists interior and exterior structural alterations as needing a permit and does not list siding replacement on its own, so check first if your project changes the wall structure. Call 3-1-1 or email buildingpermits@ottawa.ca to confirm, or ask us.

Does home insurance cover siding damage?

It depends on your specific policy and the cause of damage. Storm and wind damage are commonly covered, while gradual wear or age-related failure typically isn't. We can provide documentation and a written scope of damage for a claim, but speak with your insurer directly about what your policy covers.

Materials and condition

Which siding materials hold up to Ottawa winters?

Vinyl and fiber cement both perform well through freeze-thaw cycling when installed correctly, with enough room left for the panels to expand and contract. The bigger factor is usually installation quality, not just the material itself.

Vinyl vs. fiber cement siding: which is better?

Vinyl costs less to buy and install than fiber cement and needs no repainting. Fiber cement resists impact damage better, doesn't soften in summer heat, and holds a factory finish longer between repaints. For a shorter ownership horizon or a tighter budget, vinyl usually makes more sense. For a longer horizon or higher durability priorities, fiber cement's higher upfront cost is often worth it.

What's the difference between siding repair and replacement?

Repair addresses specific damaged panels, seams, or sections while leaving the rest of the siding in place. Replacement removes all of the existing siding and installs new material across the whole wall or home. We'll recommend whichever actually fits your siding's condition, not the more expensive option.

Can you match my existing siding for a repair?

We try to match the existing profile and colour as closely as the current product line allows. Colours can fade over time on an older home, so an exact match isn't always possible, which we'll tell you upfront.

What are the signs I need new siding?

Warped, cracked, or missing panels, fading or chalking colour, visible gaps at seams, and soft spots when you press on a panel are all signs worth an inspection. On older homes, original siding that's 20 to 40 years old (depending on material) is also worth assessing even without visible damage.

What should I look for when choosing a siding contractor?

A written quote before work begins, a clear material and labour breakdown, and straight answers about what any workmanship warranty actually covers are the basics worth confirming with any siding contractor, not just us.
